If you’re reading this, it’s safe to assume that you’re a creative person. Sometimes we all just need to be reminded of that. It sounds a bit existential and wishy-washy, but it’s easy to undercut ourselves and forget how talented and imaginative we are as artists and designers. I find putting yourself in workhorse mode—simply just keeping at it until you strike your own gold—can be the most rewarding way out of a creative rut. There have been times when I’ve just sat there doing something over and over in different ways, scrapping every idea in frustration, until I finally made that one right pencil stroke, took that one photo with the right angle, chose a slightly different shade of the same color—until finally everything comes together absolutely perfectly, effectively giving a big, fat middle finger to the rut behind you. Keep at it until you strike your own gold.
